Ternium Siderar

Ternium Siderar is the largest iron and steel company in Argentina. It belongs to Grupo Techint.

It manufactures hot and cold rolled strip, coated steel, electrozincated steel, prepainted steel, welded tubes and beams. It has nine industrial plants located in the country and over 5000 employees.

Epidata Consulting had an important participation in Siderar architecture group, which worked under IAS environments with Oracles’OC4J. The following tasks were performed:

• Monitoring and profiling with Jprobe. Several “memory-leaks” were solved.
• Environment definition.
• Application architecture definition
• Creation of a monitoring application through a JMX technology.
• Architecture validation.

Free Desktop - Ubuntu

Ternium Siderar has decided to install a work desktop PC in its offices with the Linux operating system. In order to carry out this project, Epidata will gradually install the standard Ubuntu Linux for desktops in 1.500 computers. Additionally, a tool will be installed and configured to facilitate the administration and upgrade of those computers remotely. The objective consists of installing the infrastructure in order to facilitate remote administration, maintenance, update and equipment inventory, and to bring support in the software definition to be used in each desktop. With this project, Epidata inaugurates its first project as Ubuntu’s partner, which will not be the last one due to the fact that many companies are choosing Linux to reduce their workplaces’ licensing costs.
